room 4 Care Instructions

care instructions

Natural wood and leather are hard-wearing and the odd bump or scratch over the years is nothing to worry about. With a little bit of care and time your Room 4 furniture will age very gracefully.

Reclaimed teak

  1. Avoid placing your furniture near direct heat; although this wood is well-seasoned, large temperature changes will still cause it to expand or shrink.
  2. Use heat-resistant mats and coasters to avoid placing hot or wet items directly on the wood, as it will result in a chalky white ring.
  3. A small amount of teak dye can be used to cover scratches.
  4. For day to day cleaning a duster will be fine but every now and again a small amount of wax polish (available from Room 4) will nourish and maintain your furniture's finish.

Oiled oak

  1. Oiled oak is a wonderful finish and if cared for will shrug off spills and last a lifetime. We recommend you apply a thin coat of Danish oil with a lint-free cloth once a month for the first three months. After that, once a year will do.
  2. Use heat-resistant mats and coasters to avoid placing hot or wet items directly on the wood.
  3. Wipe up spills promptly, as even with the protective oiled finish, a wet glass could leave a ring after a while.
  4. Avoid using solvents such as nail varnish remover near the wood.
  5. Avoid placing the furniture in direct sunlight or near a source of direct heat as this can cause drying and bleaching of the wood.
  6. If any marks do appear just use the lightest weight of wire wool '0000' and rub with the grain. Once the mark or scratch is removed - apply a very thin coat of oil.

Lacquered oak

  1. Avoid placing your furniture near direct heat or sunlight; large temperature changes will still cause it to expand or shrink.
  2. Use heat-resistant mats and coasters to avoid placing hot or wet items directly on the wood.
  3. The lacquered surface is long-lasting and hard-wearing but care should be taken to avoid scratching it as this can penetrate the protective finish.

Leather

  1. Our leather furniture uses pure, uncorrected Italian aniline leather which is hard-wearing and protected by it's own natural oils. Once a year application of a leather polish such as 'Lord Sheraton' or 'Yum Yum' will help to preserve its finish.
  2. For cleaning, use a barely-damp cloth and vacuum off crumbs as these can cause scratches over time.
  3. If the leather is scratched, use a chamois or even the tip of your finger to 'buff' the scratch and work the leather's own natural oils into the mark.
  4. Do not soak or clean the leather with wet cloths or sponges, as this can mark the leather.
  5. For butter, oil or grease, wipe off excess with a clean dry cloth and allow the remainder to dissipate into the leather over time.
