Oiled oak
- Oiled oak is a wonderful finish and if cared for will shrug off spills and last a lifetime. We recommend you apply a thin coat of Danish oil with a lint-free cloth once a month for the first three months. After that, once a year will do.
- Use heat-resistant mats and coasters to avoid placing hot or wet items directly on the wood.
- Wipe up spills promptly, as even with the protective oiled finish, a wet glass could leave a ring after a while.
- Avoid using solvents such as nail varnish remover near the wood.
- Avoid placing the furniture in direct sunlight or near a source of direct heat as this can cause drying and bleaching of the wood.
- If any marks do appear just use the lightest weight of wire wool '0000' and rub with the grain. Once the mark or scratch is removed - apply a very thin coat of oil.
Lacquered oak
- Avoid placing your furniture near direct heat or sunlight; large temperature changes will still cause it to expand or shrink.
- Use heat-resistant mats and coasters to avoid placing hot or wet items directly on the wood.
- The lacquered surface is long-lasting and hard-wearing but care should be taken to avoid scratching it as this can penetrate the protective finish.
Leather
- Our leather furniture uses pure, uncorrected Italian aniline leather which is hard-wearing and protected by it's own natural oils. Once a year application of a leather polish such as 'Lord Sheraton' or 'Yum Yum' will help to preserve its finish.
- For cleaning, use a barely-damp cloth and vacuum off crumbs as these can cause scratches over time.
- If the leather is scratched, use a chamois or even the tip of your finger to 'buff' the scratch and work the leather's own natural oils into the mark.
- Do not soak or clean the leather with wet cloths or sponges, as this can mark the leather.
- For butter, oil or grease, wipe off excess with a clean dry cloth and allow the remainder to dissipate into the leather over time.
